Hello Everyone,

It has been a very tumultuous time since Troop 4 moved to postpone further our meetings in the face of the COVID on (3/12/ 20). Wow, has the situation evolved kinetically since then. So, I wanted to share a few thoughts with everyone to talk about where we are, what we can do and future directions.

Due to the ongoing challenges we face here in San Diego and across the nation due to the novel coronavirus, we will continue to postpone all of our in-person meetings for the time being. That being said, the Patrol Mentors got together and had a conversation last week. We talked about how to proceed in this new reality. So the plan is for Patrols to meet using Zoom, FaceTime and other medium to facilitate patrol level meetings.

Hello Everyone,

Hello Everyone-

We are sending you this note to bring you up to speed with regards Troop 4’s position and response to the SARS-CoV2 virus.  As you know the WHO declared planet Earth to be in a state of global pandemic yesterday, 3/11/20. The disease was only recognized by the WHO on 12/31/19 and has since spread to 113 countries outside of China as of 3PM yesterday including the USA.  We still have only 1 confirmed case of a patient with the SARS-CoV2 virus in San Diego, but that number is certain to grow.

The California Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) issued guidance this morning regarding public gatherings and meetings (https://tinyurl.com/qtvk5hu).

“Non-essential gatherings must be limited to no more than 250 people, while smaller events can proceed only if the organizers can implement social distancing of 6 feet per person.”

These precautions are designed to safeguard our community and slow the spread of the virus.  This is not a cure, but will hopefully slow the spread of the disease through our community so that our medical professionals and healthcare systems are not overwhelmed.  We can deliver some of the best care in the world here, but the resources are not unlimited. So, a key consideration for us (your local healthcare community) is keeping the number of patients presenting at any one time manageable.

Dear Scouts and Troop 4 Families:

As a reminder, out of concern for the health and welfare of our Scouts, their parents and caregivers, and our community, there can be no in-person group meetings, hikes, bike rides, or any get-togethers of any kind at this time.  As scouts and leaders of the La Jolla community, we need to show leadership by example.

We recognize this is difficult for everyone, especially our Troop 4 families that prefer being in the great outdoors! However, until the Troop 4 Executive Committee formally announces a change to this status, please refrain from gathering.

To help you discuss the importance of this mandate with your scouts (young and old) take into consideration the following:

1.  Our State has issued a Shelter-in-Place order. This means that everyone is required to stay home except to get food, care for a relative or friend, get necessary health care, or go to an essential job.

2. San Diego County has issued orders to prevent the spread of COVID-19. This includes “Avoid gatherings of any size.”

Supervisor Nathan Fletcher said Wednesday. "We believe this is the month where we find out if we end up like Italy or New York or if we find ourselves through a better pathway and a better direction."  Fletcher urged San Diegans to take "aggressive action" of what is in our control. "Now is the time, the voluntary compliance is over and now it is time for strict compliance throughout all communities, jurisdictions," Fletcher said.
