Troop 4 La Jolla - Rank Advancement

Boy Scouting provides a series of surmountable obstacles and steps in overcoming them through the advancement method. The Boy Scout plans his advancement and progresses at his own pace as he meets each challenge. The Boy Scout is rewarded for each achievement, which helps him gain self-confidence. The steps in the advancement system help a Boy Scout grow in self-reliance and in the ability to help others.


Troop 4 La Jolla - Rank Advancement

The following is a listing of the Leadership Roles accepted for Rank Advancement:

The Senior Patrol Leader is elected by the Scouts to represent them as the top junior leader in the Troop. He runs all Troop meetings, events and activities. He leads the Patrol Leader's Council and, in consultation with the Scoutmaster, assigns specific responsibilities as needed.
He must be Life or Eagle Rank.

The Assistant Senior Patrol Leader is appointed by the Senior Patrol Leader with the approval of the Scoutmaster, Fills in for the SPL in his absence. He also is responsible for training and giving direction to other junior leaders in the Troop.
He must be Star, Life or Eagle Rank.

The Patrol Leader is the elected leader of his Patrol. He provides leadership to the members of his Patrol and represents them on the Patrol Leader's Council.
He must be Star, Life or Eagle Rank.

The Bugler performs the duties of bugler as directed by the Scoutmaster.
Credit only for Star & Life Ranks... NOT EAGLE SCOUT RANK

The Chaplain's Aide works with the Troop Chaplain to meet the religious needs of Scouts in the Troop. He also works to promote the Religious Emblems Program.

The Den Chief works with Cub Scouts, Webelos Scouts and Den Leaders in a Cub Scout pack.

The Historian keeps a historical record or scrapbook of Troop activities. He collects and maintains Troop memorabilia and information on former Troop members.

The Instructor teaches one or more Scouting skills to Troop members, including Cooking, First Aid, Knots & Lashings, Fire Building, Camping

The Librarian maintains a library of Troop-owned publications. He checks out merit badge books to Scouts on request and assures their return or replacement. The Librarian also logs in to troop4lajolla.com/libnet to keep the online catalog up to date.

The Troop Quartermaster is responsible for Troop equipment and sees that it is in good working order. He works with the Patrol Quartermasters on campouts. He maintains inventories He is also responsible for loading and unloading the Troop truck for campouts.

The Patrol Quartermaster is responsible for Patrol equipment and sees that it is in good working order. He maintains the Patrol Box and tents on campouts and inspects them on their return. He works with the Troop Quartermasters. He is also responsible for loading and unloading the Troop truck for campouts.

The Scribe serves as the Troop secretary and maintains the attendance records at Troop Meetings, Campouts, Courts of Honor and Patrol Leader's Council. He is responsible for overseeing the publication of the Troop newsletter. The Scribe also logs in to troop4lajolla.com/scribenet to keep the attendance roster up to date.

The Troop Guide is an advisor and guide to the new Scouts. He helps new Scouts advance to First Class in their first year. Works with the Assistant Scoutmaster assigned to the new Scouts.

The Order of the Arrow Troop Representative serves as a communication link between the lodge or chapter and the troop. Encourages Arrowmen in the troop to be active participants in the lodge and/or chapter activities and to seal their membership in the Order by becoming Brotherhood members. Helps coordinate Troop OA Elections.


Troop 4 La Jolla - Merit Badges

Patrols are the building blocks of a Boy Scout Troop. A patrol is a small group of boys who are similar in age, development, and interests. Working together as a team, patrol members share the responsibility for the patrol's success. They gain confidence by serving in positions of patrol leadership. Patrol members enjoy the friendship, sense of belonging, and achievements of the patrol and of each of its members.
